THE EVENT
"Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life worthwhile"
This really is a one of a kind challenge that will take me across a large, busy stretch of water, through British Columbia and Alberta, over the Rocky Mountains and into Calgary. An Ultra Iron man.
- The Swim - 18km
I’ll be starting my journey on September 1st, 2007 with an 18km (11.2 miles) swim from Edith Point, Mayne Island, BC to Tsawwassen, BC. This will be a very difficult swim through a busy shipping lane of the Georgia Straight. I'll be battling for many hours with waves and currents. I'll start the swim early in the morning and finish the evening of the same day.
- The Cycle - 950km
As soon as I'm out of the water I will get on my bicycle and start the long cycle from Tsawwassen, BC to Banff, AB. I’ll travel on the Trans-Canada Highway through the Rocky Mountains directly to Banff, a distance of approximately 950km (590 miles). This ride will be a very long and I'll be struggling up and down some nasty mountains and roads, Rogers Pass to name the area I fear most!
- The Run - 130km
The final stage of this challenge will be a three marathon run from Banff to Calgary. A total distance of 130km (81 miles). My legs, body and mind will be completely exhausted by this time, but I will find more energy from somewhere to complete the distance. I will be continually spurred on by the thought of The Children's Wish Foundation and all the amazing things they do for Canadian children.
This is a tough challenge for anyone, for me this will take a lot of training and preparation. I'm going to try to complete this in one week. I've ran a couple of half marathons in my life, but those don't even comes close to what I am planning. Check out my personal blog link to see how my preparations are going.
